LinkExchange, the company he co-founded, to Microsoft for $265 million.
He then joined Zappos as an advisor and investor, and eventually became
CEO, where he helped them grow from almost no sales to over $1 billion
gross merchandise sales annually, while simultaneously making Fortune magazine's annual Best Companies to Work For list. In November 2009,
Zappos was acquired by Amazon.com in a deal valued at $1.2
billion on the day of closing.About Chip Conley:
Chip Conley founded Joie de Vivre in 1987, and it is now California's
largest independent hotel company and the second largest boutique hotel
company in the United States. At the age of 26 with no industry
experience, Chip transformed a seedy 1950’s "no-tell motel" into the
world-renowned Phoenix Hotel, a legendary rock 'n roll hotel catering to
the likes of David Bowie, Linda Ronstadt and Little Richard. Building
on an innovative design formula that inspires guests to experience an
“identity refreshment” during their visit, today Joie de Vivre consists
of a vast collection of award-winning hotels, restaurants and spas
across the state with more than 3,000 employees, and annual revenues
approaching $250 million. Chip and his company’s time-tested techniques
and transformational leadership practices have been featured in Fast Company, Fortune, and the Wall Street Journal.
About Jesse Jacobs:
A best-selling author, Chip shares his unique prescription for success in his most recent book, PEAK: How Great Companies Get Their Mojo from Maslow. In a world overrun with distraction and anxiety, Jesse woke up one day to the simple ritual of drinking tea. He realized that tea was the profound and desperately needed salve for life today. Wanting to do something with his life that would make a difference, he started Samovar as a way to help people to wake up to life.
He believes that if we take the time to slow down, and really connect with ourselves and with others, that life will get better for all. Combining his passion for business and personal development, Samovar has blossomed over the years creating thousands of fanatical customers, three retail stores in San Francisco, an e-commerce site, over 70 employees, and customers from around the world.
