Genmaicha, Samovar-style. Japanese matcha powder blended with toasted brown rice and steamed green tea. A meal unto itself. Cereal-like and nutty, a touch of grassiness, and the ultimate for breakfast.

Fantastic when you get it right January 28, 2013

Over steep Samovar's Ryokucha and it tastes like old grass clippings and burnt toast. Get it right, though, and you are rewarded with a lovely, aromatic infusion with a nice, light green grassy taste and a bit of toasty depth. Mind you, I'm much pickier than the other reviewers, so for me 30 seconds was too long. A small amount of tea and 15 seconds of steep time are all that's needed, after which the leaves can be resteeped at least 3 more times. The Vivid Brewpot is the perfect vessel, with water at 160 degrees F for the best experience. And a lovely experience it is. This is, so far, my favorite genmai cha.

Great wakeup! May 24, 2009

Recently ordered a plethora of teas from Samovar and this was by far my favourite. Nutty, aromatic and just a  beautiful looking tea. A great one to show off to your friends. If the tea settles in the pot the last bit makes a wonderful dark-green shot of healthy goodness!

Just ordered another 2 large cans...should have made it 3 or 4!

First try of a Samovar tea scores big! May 18, 2009
Reviewer: Paul T. from Scottsdale, AZ
I was surprised by how richly the Ryokucha brewed in both taste and color.  I wasn't used to the short prep time, but I'm glad I followed the label's instructions explicitly and only steeped for 2 minutes. The color was a deep, opaque grassy green. The fragrance was bright and "meadowy" with a touch of toast, probably from the roasted rice. This tea is very hearty and will be added to my regular rotation.
